I want to make art that re-establishes the link between nature and culture. To do this I collect materials from the surrounding landscapes of Northumberland to create objects and a language that is unique to the region. This allows me to better understand the materials themselves as well as the places I take them from and is also a way of challenging how global consumerism has homogenised cultures and robbed local regions of their cultural narrative. I am also exploring how globalism can disconnect societies from the natural world they live in and how this abstraction causes environmental destruction. We need to start telling our own stories again, and with our own voices.
